Student Project-Type Classification Posters

Category: Typography/Layout

Target Audience: People who go to places of learning and studying like students and remote workers. It can be both a piece of art and something you can learn from.

Background: Typefaces can be categorized and presented in many ways. For this project, the typefaces were categorized by type classification then broken down by the anatomy and history of each.

Design Problem: Create 3 type classification posters describing the different categories of type and displaying typographic skills. This required a demonstration of typographic skills in order to display all required information in the space provided while also maintaining hierarchy.

To begin, I wanted the color scheme to be based in primary colors. I tried several methods to created blocks for information in the layout. Once I had the initial layout, I was able to create different versions of that same design to replicate it on the other typefaces. One challenge was ensuring that all typefaces remained within the design and adjusting size and positioning of the letters to do so. For large bodies of text, I also had to ensure that there were no rivers, widows, orphans, etc. Overall, I wanted to create a cohesive and clean design that could be used in several different ways and I believe I achieved that.
