Student Project-Alternate Clothing

Target Audience: Gen Z/Millennials who are concerned with the climate crisis and fast fashion being brought to light.

Background: For this project, the goal was to choose from a variety of well-known people from history. The person I chose was Nikola Tesla. From there, I was able to develop a brand and company based on Tesla.

Company statement of purpose: Alternate Clothing Company is a sustainable clothing company. It was formed in hopes of creating awareness of clothing waste and promoting a more sustainable future. As our world becomes more interconnected through the internet and technological innovation, there has been a call to become more environmentally conscious. At Alternate Clothing, we aim to be a platform for our customers to spread awareness and provide quality clothing that is long-lasting and durable.

I began my process of creating a brand and company by doing research on Nikola Tesla and his accomplishments. One of the main parts of his research that stood out to me was his study of alternating currents and energy. He went on to make other scientific discoveries such as creating the first ever man-made lightning. Based on my research, I was able to create a logo, name, and business statement of purpose.

To create a brand that represented Tesla, I blended his scientific research of energy with the modern movement towards energy conservation, efficiency, and sustainability. In terms of typefaces and color schemes, I wanted it to look futuristic, clean, and approachable. Green is a well-known color of sustainability and efficiency which is why it was the main color of the brand. The typefaces I utilized were Uniwars and Eurostile Extd. To include a piece of Tesla in the brand name, I chose the initials AC and came up with “Alternate Clothing”. From there I was able to build the company out and create materials to utilize for social media and advertising.
